KUHEILAAN AAFAS MAIDAAN was gifted to Janów Podlaski Stud by the King of Bahrain in 2014. This stallion is a representative of the same dam line, Kuhailan Afas (Kuheila’t Aafas), from which came the bay colt imported in 1931 by Bogdan Ziętarski from Bahrain to the stud farm in Gumniska of Prince Roman Sanguszko. In Arab countries, the concept of sire lines is not used, and stallions are classified according to their dam’s family. The prince’s acquisition received a name referring to his dam line – Kuhailan Afas. He gave birth to a sire line in Poland, whose outstanding representatives were the stallions Comet, Probat and Fawor.
The sire of Kuheilaan Aafas Maidaan – Shawaf Al Betaar – represents the Al-Shawafah line, whose stallions are considered particularly valuable. Shawaf Al Betaar was a very good race horse and a beautiful show horse. The dam of Kuheilaan Aafas Maidaan, the bay Kuheila’t Aafas Nood, represents the Kuheila’t Aafas dam line – considered the most valuable dam line in the region.
At the Royal Bahrain Stud, the decision to qualify a stallion for breeding is made after he reaches maturity, but no earlier than when he is 7 years old. This is exactly how old Kuheilaan Aafas Maidaan was when he was gifted to the Janów Stud. Previously, he completed two years of racing training (16 starts). The stallion is characterized by a deep, strong, short, well-couped body and a sloping, long shoulder. His beauty is very similar to desert horses – those imported almost 100 years ago from the Arabian Peninsula and modern Desert Bred horses (bred in Arabia, but not registered in the purebred stud books). Kuheilaan Aafas Maidaan’s excellent character is noteworthy – he is a balanced, gentle horse, easy to handle, willing to work under saddle. This certainly results from the selection criteria used for centuries on the Arabian Peninsula, i.e. the preference for horses that are reliable in battle and in travel – brave, full of stamina and devoted to people.
